Reproductive Justice

Our MissioN

While the rights of women to control their own reproductive health choices have been threatened for many decades, the June 2022 Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade has effectively made abortion illegal in 13 states and subject to attack in the rest of the United States. Though women of wealth and privilege may be able to travel to abortion safe havens, poorer women - often women of color - will be forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term, risking both their health and their families’ economic stability. Threshold Foundation will support increased reproductive freedom through the Reproductive Justice Granting Collaborative.

In 2023, our focus for the Reproductive Justice Granting Collaborative will be on selecting intermediary organizations that are dedicated to reproductive justice, with expertise in education, advocacy, messaging, or legal support, as well as those that might help build movements and motivate increased civic participation amongst affected communities and their allies. This journey will also embrace the Funding Venture concept of releasing a degree of donor control by allowing experts in the field to create the docket and make final grant allocations. Our partner intermediary organizations will ensure that funds are allocated to where they are needed in the moment, while also integrating, racial, gender and economic justice concepts into our reproductive justice efforts. In addition to providing financial support to this movement, we will aim to educate both ourselves and the wider Threshold community on this topic through in-person sessions during conferences and/or online opportunities with experts in the field.
